What is SEO?

SEO stands for Search Engine Optimisation. In short, it is the process of making changes to your website in order to rank higher on search engines, and increase the amount of organic (non-paid) traffic that you gain.

The key elements of SEO include —

  1. Keyword research and competitor analysis.
  2. On-page optimisation, including metadata, heading and text optimisations.
  3. Off-page optimisation, including link building and guest posts.
  4. Technical optimisation, improving site speed and user-friendliness.
  5. Content creation, which includes writing informative blog posts.

The main reason that SEO is important is because it helps your website to rank higher on search engine result pages (SERPs). This makes it more visible to potential visitors, which can increase your organic traffic and opportunities to convert. In addition to this,

  1. When a customer finds you through search, they are already looking for your product or service — you just need to convince them that yours is the best.
  2. It’s more cost-effective because, unlike pay-per-click advertising, it doesn’t require you to pay for advertising space, clicks, or to get your brand in front of customers
  3. 68% of online experiences begin with a search engine, and 53.3% of all website traffic comes from organic search. The more relevant places on search that you appear, the more you’ll benefit.

Organic search results are the unpaid listings that appear on search engine results pages (SERPs), whereas paid search results consist of advertisements that appear at the top or bottom of the page. The latter will be marked with “Ad” or “Sponsored”, whereas organic search results will not.

SEO aims to increase organic traffic from unpaid search results, whereas paid search pays for placement and then a fee each time one of their ads is clicked.

We charge £40 per hour for our services. Transparency is maintained by sharing the breakdown of hours and tasks with the client before we begin work, and never going over the maximum cost set out in this breakdown. In addition to this, if a task takes less time than predicted in the original budget, it costs less.

You can do SEO yourself, but it takes a lot of commitment to get it right. For this reason, lots of businesses prefer to hire an in-house SEO specialist, or outsource their work to an external team.

Some of our clients prefer to take a middle ground approach and book regular SEO coaching sessions, where they learn how to improve their SEO and execute the work themselves. This can be more cost-effective than hiring an external team, if you have the time to commit.

The time it takes to see SEO results depends on several factors, including the quality of your website and how competitive your industry is, though you should expect to see results within six months.
